Wind chills and reduced temperatures are two key factors that may lead to frozen pipes or even bursting pipes. Extreme cold could convert water that runs through the pipe into ice, blocking the line. Such a blockage usually puts a tremendous pressure on the entire plumbing system, and may very well lead to pipe failure, regardless of the material that the pipe is made of. The smallest cracks in metal or plastic frozen water pipes could release hundreds of gallons of water inside your home or office, generating extensive property damage and potentially forcing you to cope with unpredicted expenses. The good news is that you can use the following expert tips to prevent frozen pipes in a timely fashion.

Frozen Pipes What to Do Before Calling a Plumber

At some point, you may be faced with a challenge on your property: frozen pipes what to do?  If you’re dealing with frozen water pipes, start by shutting off the water that flows through the structure. By doing so, you will manage to relieve the pressure on your pipes and also reduce the amount of water that may flood your room if frozen pipes burst. Next, use a source of heat, like hair-dryer for instance, to melt the block of ice within your pipe. This trick only works if your frozen pipes are exposed. If they are not visible, count on the best plumbing services offered by your reputable plumbers from Ben Manis Plumbing.

Dealing with Frozen Water Pipes Shouldn’t Be a Nightmare

Whatever you do, do not neglect frozen water pipes, thinking that your problem will go away on its own. It won’t!  As a matter of fact, you should address this issue as soon as possible to prevent any complications leading to additional damages and costs. When ice blocks expand, they push the water that goes through the pipe towards the faucet. This action results in superior water pressure building between the closed faucet and the ice structure. Under this tremendous pressure, frozen pipes burst. When frozen pipes burst, it’s always best to let an experienced plumber troubleshoot and fix this problem. Here are a few quick facts related to the best prevention methods and solutions recommended for frozen pipes.

  • Open cabinet doors placed under sinks to let uninsulated pipes absorb some of the indoor heat
  • Insulate the pipes that are located in unheated spaces
  • You can protect pipes prone to freezing by wrapping heat cables or heat tape around them
  • Maintain an ideal temperature inside your room
  • Consider insulating your garage walls, crawl spaces and outside walls, and every other area that accommodates pipes that may be exposed to freezing.
  • Keep in mind that the optimal temperature inside your building should be in the 55 degrees Fahrenheit range
  • If needed, ask your plumbers how you could prevent frozen pipes during winter
  • Don’t neglect frozen water pipes; ice accumulations could easily expand, making the pipe burst
  • Whatever you do, do not use open flames to melt ice blocks
  • If you’re dealing with a frozen water pipe problem that you can’t control, call our team of plumbers and the best local specialists will come to the rescue

Frozen Water Pipes Burst: What Should You Do?

Ideally, when frozen water pipes burst, you shouldn’t try to fix the faulty structure on your own, using basic materials that you could find around the house, such as duct tape. Ad-hoc, DIY fixes are always unreliable. Instead, choose to minimize water damage and prevent further plumbing issues by opting for the quality emergency services that we, at Ben Manis Plumbing, available at your disposal 24/7.

After repeated attempts by amateurs to fix an issue with my washing machine, they came out and removed the old hook up connection and replaced it with a new, less complicated outlet box. Once completed the washer still was not working; they took the time to diagnose the issue and were able to resolve the problem. Very pleased and will hire again.

Excellent customer service! Exceptional and friendly service and great price! Was quite a bit later than the appointment time of 10 AM but I did tell them any time was fine [i was in no rush]. They did call me a number of times to inform me as to when they would be here. David came, introduced himself [very nice]. Had to replace some parts inside the toilet which I already had and reset the toilet [as the bolts anchoring the toilet to the floor rusted out [toilet wobbling]. Replaced wax ring and bolts! Toilet now good as new! Will definitely use Ben Manis Plumbing in the future !

As a Realtor I sold a house to a young couple, where the seller was supposed to remedy the water pressure. After settlement, the water pressure was still low so I sent Ben Manis over. Ben found that the water meter was missing! The home inspector and seller's plumber both missed it. Needless to say, the water authority was there within 20 minutes to install a meter. If it weren't for Ben, the buyers could have been sold a $1500 water pressure system and would have possibly faced fines and back bills when the water department finally caught up. Honesty, integrity and attention to detail are hard to find. No one is perfect but Manis Plumbing is the best there is.

The plumber was very friendly and knowledgeable. I had a stopped kitchen sink which has a garbage disposal on it. He explained in details about my concerns about how garbage disposals work, and also explained what should and should not go in them. He accessed the problem and within a few minutes he had unclogged my drain. And, he cleaned my sink out which he didn't have to. I am very happy with Ben Manis Plumbing service as well as the plumbing technician, Eric Mendez.

Christopher of Ben Manis appeared on time, was extremely polite and efficient, explained what needed to be done and then proceeded to complete the repair. He cleaned up afterwards and left the area in excellent condition. I would highly recommend this company, and particularly, Christopher most heartily.
